Successes of 2019 and our 2020 Objectives
Well here we are everyone!
We have a great deal to celebrate from 2019 – a year in which we made significant progress towards materializing our mission connecting like minded businesspeople for Growth, Insight and Impact. I am truly inspired with the diversity and drive our community is attracting & wanted to share with you some of our successes:
- You grew Business Strategy NZ by more than 1200 members to nearly 5300 exiting 2019.
- In July, we became the largest business-oriented meetup in New Zealand.
- In September we crossed 5000 Community members, becoming the 13th largest NZ community on meetup.
- Through our partnership with B1G1 and focus on the UN SDGs we crossed 6,600 giving impacts to communities in need globally.
- We held our first major event, Entrepreneur 5.0 attracting more than 200 like-minded business builders for a one-day focus event.
- We ran 22 Business Social events attracting hundreds of owners with consistently high feedback about the quality of our presenters, our community makeup, and our event execution.
- We expanded our Business Social Connect events to 3 locations across Auckland. Thanks to our incredibly supportive social venues Tom Tom, New Brew, and Applejacks and the managers and staff who created great environments for our meetings through 2019.
- Thanks to our partnership with Innovitas we ran 8 highly successful Mastermind round-tables for high-growth startup entrepreneurs.
- We blazed through four high-impact, high-rated Business Speed Networking events creating many new customer and JV relationships with outstanding event ratings.
- We leveraged our network reach to promote 3rd party events like Tech-Week, Cyber-Security Awareness Week, The Mike Handcock business growth event, Entrepreneur 5.0 and through this were able to help Know Your Purpose support NZ teenagers develop confidence, identity, and avoid depression.
- We ran 15 events in Co-Work entrepreneurial spaces across Auckland with very special thanks to the amazing Debra Chantry for the invaluable support of The Common through 2019.
- We highlighted 14 member businesses through our Social speaking opportunities and delivered 3 interactive workshops using their knowledge and skills.
- We joined in two Buy1Give1 workshops helping SME business owners realize the goal of making Social Impact alongside profit-making as a key purpose for business.
The momentum you achieved through driving these contributions in 2019 has formed the basis for our priorities in 2020 and underscored the key reasons I believe our movement exists and continues to flourish, attracting quality people from every industry, background, and skillset. In the year ahead, we will continue to focus on 5 strategic imperatives and measure our progress through the year these 10 measures:

We will improve our ability to reach like-minded individuals and organisations from around the world and develop our events and activities to reflect the requirements of our community and accelerate the business connection movement.
We will achieve all of the above measures in 2020 in a manner that embraces diversity, opportunity for entrepreneurs at every stage of their business journey, and the opt-in, inclusive model we have successfully developed over the last 3 years.
